The ASE - Academia de Studii Economice din Bucuresti (Bucharest University of Economic Studies), established in 1913, is one of the largest universities in Romania and the only one specializing entirely in economics and business studies. With more than 23000 students, it is ranked as a top research-intensive university in Romania. ASE is ranked 801-1001 in the world among reseach-intensive universities in Times Higher Education University Ranking 2020, and 601+ in Social sciences, respectively 501+ in Business and economics in the THE Ranking by subjects. ASE is ranked 301-350 in the QS World Universities Ranking 2017 in Economics & Econometrics and 155th in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia - QS Regional Ranking EECA 2020.
ASE is also the best positioned Romanian university in Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019 being ranked 201-300 in Economics and Business Administration and 401-500 in Management. Comprising 12 faculties and 23 centres for research on economic and social sciences topics, it offers undergraduate and graduate programs, doctorates in Economics, Business, Law and interdisciplinary fields, and post-doctoral programs.

According to its strategy, it aims at improving the educational and research environment for its students, academia & researchers, correlated with higher involvement in the community, under the development of the European Higher Education Area. ASE is committed to improving the knowledge economy, valorizing more European citizenship, increasing employability and cross-border mobility. Within the triangle educationresearch-innovation, ASE aims at covering a wide range of subjects, with the main focus on maintaining an active position in the policy-making process in Romania, by providing decision makers with up-to-date research in issues regarding the current problems faced by the community.
The Faculty of Business and Tourism is offering a modern educational curricula, adjusted to the European Union higher education’s requirements, in the field of Business Administration, preserving in the mean time the ongoing national tradition. Interdisciplinary approaches are aiming to be connected to that of the major economic schools of commerce, commodities and quality management, tourism and services, both in the E.U. and worldwide. Since 2005, according to the “Bologna Process” the Faculty of Business and Tourism has adopted a new structure of studies including a three year cycle of graduation and a unique section for the whole faculty, called “Business Administration in Commerce, Tourism, Services, Commodity Science and Quality Management”.
The Department of Tourism and Geography aims to train future specialists in the tourism and geography field by permanently modernizing the training process, conducted primarily through the development of modern curricula, consistent with those of prestigious universities abroad by having a stable structure and a dynamic content.
The department includes 30 professors, with rich expertise in tourism field, mainly economy and management of tourism, cultural tourism, ecotourism, rural tourism, management of tourism destination, tourism techniques, hotel and restaurant management, hospitality industry, business ethics for tourism, strategic management for tourism, operations management, event management, tourism geography and geopolitics. More, part of the professors coordinate classes and develop projects regarding the student internships at bachelor and master level.

ASE continuously improves and develops its curricula in an effort to improve the quality and relevance of its higher education. In addition, it has an extensive experience in managing international projects having been beneficiary and partner in: Mobility projects – Socrates-Erasmus (1998 – 2007), LLP Erasmus (2007 - 2013) and Erasmus+ (2014 - 2021) – KA1 mobility projects as well as KA2 strategic partnerships, GRUNTVIG Projects (2011 - 2013), operational programs financed through the ESF - Development of Human Resources, Horizon 2020 projects and other various Interregional projects. Bucharest University of Economic Studies is the most important university of economics and business administration in Romania. It is also the most important institute for education and research in tourism, through his Faculty of Business and Tourism, respectively Department of Tourism and Geography.
