The University of Salamanca (USAL) has successfully implemented the remote internship pilot program of the Erasmus+ Preview Project (Promoting Resilience and Employability in uniVersity), within the framework of Work Package 4 (WP4). The initiative focused on testing hybrid internships in the Tourism Degree at the Ávila campus, combining remote and on-site experiences to enhance student employability and digital competencies.
Although 34 students initially expressed interest in participating, only 6 students completed internships across 4 different host institutions, due to factors such as reduced enrolment in the Tourism program and scheduling constraints. A total of 17 operators participated in the experience: 6 company tutors, 6 academic tutors, 1 university coordinator, and 4 company coordinators. Despite these limitations, the feedback gathered through structured surveys was highly positive, reflecting significant learning outcomes and high levels of satisfaction among students and company mentors alike.

The hybrid internships were supported by the Preview MOOCs, which prepared students for digital work environments and helped clarify expectations. Both academic and company tutors emphasized the flexibility and value of the model.
USAL’s commitment and coordination efforts ensured a meaningful experience for all participants. The SWOT analysis highlighted key strengths such as participant satisfaction and the effectiveness of hybrid learning, while identifying opportunities to expand the model to other degree programs and improve digital onboarding tools.
The results of this pilot offer valuable lessons for the scalability of remote internships in the higher education sector, especially for students in rural or disadvantaged contexts.
